How To Connect Windows Mobile Smartphone to Internet Access with Wi-Fi

In olden days most of the mobile phones were equipped with technologies such as
GPRS (General Radio Packet Service) which is nothing but packet data internet access
through your mobile. In early days it provided a decent browsing speed over 40 kbps.
But users find it difficult it to browse or download at this sort of speed.
So a new concept in mobile phones was introduced and is called Wi-Fi.

It’s also called as wireless LAN. As the name itself implies it’s a wireless
technology which provides internet or intranet access.
To provide wireless access certain wi-fi hubs or routers are provided
by many ISP (Internet Service Provider) companies. But if a company or a house
is equipped with a wi-fi modem then a smartphone like windows can also be able to use
it at a very high speed similar to desktop browsing speed.
Now a days many of the smartphones are Wi-Fi capable . And if any user has got this
device means he can cut down on his data plans.
Lets see how to connect to a WLAN using a Wi-Fi capable smartphones.
Follow the steps as described below:

Setting Up Your Device

The initial step is to activate Wi-Fi on a Windows Mobile phone is to launch the Comm Manager utility. As soon as Comm Manager opens, you will be able to see a collection of icons signifying the different connection types which is your device is capable of and that can be used.

Enable Wi-Fi Option

The wi-fi icon looks similar to a antenna with some semi circle stripes over it. It is not a hard job to connect to a wi-fi service. If not by enabling wi-fi
option your phone will automatically detect the nearby wi-fi connection.
After it detects it will show you the possible connection available list on your screen.

Choosing the network

Choose the network you want to use and progress through the wizard to state the encryption type and key. It will probably ask for the user name and password. Enter the details and click connect. When you are connected you will be able to see the highlighted Wi-Fi icon on top of your windows mobile phone home screen. In exception cases only your mobile phone will not detect any wireless network.
Points to remember
• Intense usage of Wi-Fi on your mobile will weak your battery life.
• When connection is not required disable or turn off the connection
as it will degrade your battery power.
